Our Story
The most attractive quality one can have is empathy. I have discovered that those that lived a life of service, whether they are veterans, grandma’s, or grandpa’s, are often left alone with no one to care for them.
My mother’s Lupus diagnosis had me in denial for some years. I was there to listen and encourage her in times of flare-ups, pain, and mood changes. She often told me that she’s restricted to a few sources of energy a day, and when her body signals its source of energy is depleted, she has to be confined to bed rest for hours and sometimes even days. And what that means is unfinished housework and life’s demands of errands have to wait for a better day.
Often, a person who consistently goes above and beyond to assist others is powerless to assist themselves when the need arises. I deeply empathize with the meaning of being a ‘warrior’ through her testimony. I found it difficult to watch her perform tasks that required a physically healthy body to perform those tasks, knowing that I couldn’t help her because we live miles away from one another.
My grandma, who was also a caregiver to the church family most of my life, now also was diagnosed with Dementia some years after my mother’s Lupus diagnosis. With both of my loved ones vulnerable, I felt like I was going through a midlife crisis, and this is where I hit rock bottom with feelings of helplessness and guilt. I could not take care of my loved ones that had taken care of me because of distance.
Cordial Heart’s Homecare was inspired by the vision of stepping in to help someone’s parents, grandparents, or child and to provide care for them as if they were my own family. Eventually, we were able to find my grandmother’s caregivers, and I’m still working on convincing my mother she needs extra support around the home with cooking, cleaning, laundry, dusting, replacing batteries in the smoke detector, and the list goes on. I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals with disabilities. Being able to also support those that are elderly is a bonus and adds great value to life.
As the agency owner, I hold an M. Ed. in Special Education, and I consider it an honor to be able to spend most days helping children with disabilities such as Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairments, and Autism thrive in an educational setting. I’ve been on that journey for the past 12 years.
Cordial Heart’s Homecare employees are caring individuals with various backgrounds, from working with children to working in hospitals and nursing homes. Our robust experience allows us to service all individuals with disabilities, whether young or old.
I’m a noteworthy person who will be willing to listen to your needs and give you the finest care possible. Allow us to provide loving and supportive care in the comfort of wherever you call home.
About the Founder
A phenomenal encounter with life changed the trajectory of my career and helped form my passion. I have learned that it’s never too late in life to make a U-turn.
I resigned from Corporate America, and I went back to college to pursue a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I am an advocate to help our most vulnerable populations, which include those with autoimmune diseases, our elderly, our veterans, and our disabled children.
As my new career took off in Special Education, I was silently coping with my mother’s battle with Lupus, and I was also grieving the cognitive decline of my grandmother due to Alzheimer’s.
I decided to dedicate my career to helping people with disabilities, including elders in my community, because of the overwhelming need for that “family-like” support system. I believe that we should honor and respect our elders by taking care of them in their most vulnerable stages of life.
